Great cattle classes - Bull Bonanza, Heifer Spectacular, Steer Competition and classes for 12 breeds - rare breed Red Poll usually well represented at this show, and Any Other Breed. Juniors superbly catered for - with classes inclding Schools leading cattle, Junior Handler classes and Junior Judge. Safeguarding the future. Horses aplenty with lots of ridden and in-hand events. Always an excellent poultry show - ably organised by the Bellinger River District Poultry Club for 45 years, and this year Pigeons are included.  Loads more including woodchops, art, home craft, cooking, utes, sideshows, refreshments and all the fun of the show. Fabulous opportunity to view and/or show our wonderful rare poultry breeds - Maitland is a beautiful town in the Hunter Valley, the showground has an excellent poultry pavilion; there's ample parking and the usual facilities for humans too. Lovely outing for the poultry enthusiast. This years feature breed is the Leghorn, loved over generations for its egg production. So many beautiful breeds will be on show, fowl and bantams and waterfowl. Exciting to see so many breeds in one place, and meet other enthusiasts. Iconic sheep show - a must for sheep breeders in the state, from Merinos to rare breeds. Sheep breeds, fleeces, spinning, weaving, shearing, fashion, Young Judges, you name it. Exhibition hall has a fabulous array including jams, preserves, pickles, flowers, cakes, art and everything good. Lotf of junior comps. There are also horses including hunter classes and pony club classes; dog high jump, sheepdogs including the famous Smithfield breed. Bee keeping demonstrations.  Wood chops, lots of refreshments, sideshows, activities for children. Top days out. Website for schedules, details.

Fabulous annual competiton - all draught horse breeds in Australia are rare, although the Clydesdale is listed as a Recovering breed it's only just safe. These events not only get the horses out in the public eye, but vitally keep their uses alive, and the skills that go along with using farm horses. Lots of fun - waggon rides all day. Many demonstrations and talks. Food stalls. Bring your own chair - and it's only $15 entry - and free camping for all who want it. The Australian Draught, a breed being formed, is a top type and will be there too. Wonderful day to watch horses at work with some of the best horsemen in Australia, and support them. Top poultry show, always popular - plentiful rare breeds classes too! - including a Rare Turkey class this year. Loads of waterfowl, guinea fowl, hard and soft feather chicken classes including bantams. Rosecombs. Egg comp. Juniors to enter birds in open classes, although there's a Junior category in the egg comp. Generous cash prizes - Champion Bird In Show wins $500, as well as Cerificates and ribbons. Cash prizes in the rare breeds classes too - so good to see, thank you all sponsors of this great show including the Rare Breeds Trust of Australia. Wonderful to see rare breeds featured this year, as well as the popular varieties of poultry. Egg classes too. Junior handler classes - heartening lot of children showing their birds, they are the future of the breeds. Classes for backyard breeders too, so non-purebreds may be showed, often very useful birds. Lots of quality birds, classes for turkeys and waterfowl too. Judge is Michael Jones from Victoria. Venue is the beautifully airy - yet covered - showing area at Lakeview House, Fred's Pass. The Club, which is on Facebook and where cover photo is from, also holds information days there such as "Keeping Poultry In The Tropics." Always a top show, in picturesque Longford. Great showgrounds. This years featured breeds are the Phoenix and Yokohama - the latter in photo - both known for the roosters stunning long tails, and regarded as ornamental breeds. Hens also delightful, with a superb tail. Eggs on show too. Helmsman Auction is an opportunity to buy one of these beutiful breeds offered. Gteat opportunity to exhibit or simply go along and enjoy.
