How to make a submission: two submission options
OPTION 1 - "Traditional Show Style" - multiple responses on one emailed or posted form
This option is similar to entering a Show. Find the Census Code (aka a class number) on the Census Schedule below and transfer that code to the Submission Form (aka entry form). Here's what to do:
- Download the Census Submission Form - PDF (.pdf) and Word (.docx) versions are available by scrolling to the bottom of this page to download the forms.
- Find the Census Code (a bit like a class number) on the Poultry Census Schedule below. Handy shortcut: Use the Find option in your web browser to search for your breed. Want to Download the Census Schedule instead? Find it as an attachment at the bottom of this page.
If your breed isn't listed you can still submit it - there is a separate section on the Census Submission Form.
- Transfer the code to your downloaded Census Submission Form.
- Enter colour/varieties plus the number of breeding age male and/or female birds relevant to that code. You can find a list of standardised colours on our Poultry Colours and Varieties page.
- Repeat as many times as needed on the Submission Form for the breeds, colours/varieties and sizes you have just like you would for a Show entry.
- Send the form to the address/email on the form by close of business 1 July 2024. We are happy to have you send us photos of your completed form if that is easier.
OPTION 2 - Online Submission (one response at a time)
Please note that for online submission, one response (breed/size/colour/variety) at a time needs to be made. If you use the "Traditional Show Style" you can enter all your breeds and their colours/varieties on the one form in one go.
- Online Submission Form - Breeds Listed in the Census Schedule
- Online Submission Form - Breeds NOT Listed in the Census Schedule
A note about Utility Strains
If you have a Utility Strain of a pure breed, use the Census Code for the breed. You can then enter Utility Strain in the Colour/Variety section of the Census Submission form. Plus, you will be able to comment, if you wish, on the background of the Utility Strain you breed. A Utility Strain is a strain of a pure breed that has come about through selective breeding for its economic values, that is, significantly higher egg or meat production than would be expected from the breed in its “exhibition form”. Some Utility Strains in Australia are likely to have their origins prior to the 1970s; some may have CSIRO used in the naming. Some may be used as parent birds in their pure form to create commercial hybrids. The look of a Utility Strain bird may differ to a larger or lesser degree from the exhibition look of the breed as set out in poultry standards. Utility Strains in Australia include Utility White Leghorns, Utility Australorps, Utility Light Sussex (Fred Hams), Utility New Hampshire and Utility Rhode Island (Red or White). There may be Utility strains of other pure breeds coming within the previous meaning of selectively bred for high production– these too may be noted in the Census.
