Meet the team: Scott Carter

Director

Scott Carter joined the Rare Breeds Trust board in January 2023. Scott’s passion for rare breeds started at the age of five when he acquired his first poultry. His family have a long history of breeding and showing animals; his parents breeding and showing English Bull Terriers, and his grandparents breeding and showing Australian Ponies. Scott and his mother started Amrabull Park Highland cattle in 2007. Under Scott's care, Amrabull Park has become one of the top folds in Australia and in 2017 he and his husband, Luke, added Belted Galloways to the herd. Amrabull Park is also the most active Belted Galloway and Highland exhibitor in South Australia, attending shows, field days and displays across Australia.

Scott’s poultry list includes Red Jungle Fowl, Naked Neck (both standard and bantam fowls), Guinea Fowl, Rouen, Muscovy and Indian Runner Ducks as well as a few naked neck projects in the works. Scott also bred Khaki Campbell ducks and New Hampshire fowl for a number of years.

His livestock involvement also includes pigs. He currently works at Gumshire Pork, owned by the Blenkiron Family in Keyneton, SA. Scott’s main role is Farrowing House manager, however is also involved with breeding and husbandry practices outside of farrowing. The breeds that Gumshire Pork breed and exhibit are Hampshire, Duroc, Large White and Landrace. Scott has worked in the pig industry for over 11 years.

Scott is also heavily involved with several organisations, including the Australian Highland Cattle Society Inc and the Australian Belted Galloway Association as SA Representative and President.
