Meet the team : Yan Kleynhans

So a bit about me...

Born and bred in Pretoria (South Africa) I grew up on a small holding where we had a piggery. We successfully raised Landrace x Large Whites for the local abattoir at Pyramid. We also had a mixture of beef and dairy cows to keep the grass down. After school I studied at the University of Pretoria as an Afrikaans and Geography teacher. A few years later with a wife and two boys by my side I boarded a plane for Kingsford Smith never to return. Australia really was the promised land for us. For the first time we knew what safety and freedom really meant. It was here where I was "bullied" by a principal to start teaching agriculture as i grew up on a farm and thus had to know everything. I returned to University and gained my Agriculture qualification from Charles Sturt. My passion for cattle grew stronger by the day and I soon realized that we were losing our heritage breeds through x breeding to suit the wider market.
